JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KSDK) - Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.) was just trying to be a good mom and roast her son a whole pig for his birthday this weekend. But that didn't stop her from causing a Twitter controversy.
It started on Saturday, when she tweeted before and after photos of a roast pig to her more than 95,000 followers - some of whom were upset by the graphic images.
"Um, senator, that's pretty gross," one said.
"All due respect senator, that's extremely upsetting for some people to see," another user said. "Maybe a warning: dead animal next time?"
This led McCaskill to sort of apologize for the photo, tweeting, "goodness gracious. So sorry I offended so many vegans. In Missouri, we raise pigs and cattle and chickens and eat them."
