BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KSDK) - Two teenagers been charged with armed robbery after allegedly luring a woman and her boyfriend to Bradford Place using a Craigslist posting advertising an iPhone for sale.
Trevon Yales, 17, is currently in custody at St. Clair County Jail on a $500,000 bond. Another unidentified 16 year old has also been charged with armed robbery, and is currently being held at the St. Clair County Juvenile Detention Center.
The victim told police that she had found an iPhone for sale on Craigslist and called the listed phone number. The seller told her not to call him, but to instead send text messages. After exchanging several messages, a selling price and location for the transaction was arranged.
The victim and her boyfriend drove to Bradford Place in Belleville, where they say two men walked over to them from behind the building and approached her vehicle. One of the men told the victim that he was the one who had posted the ad and that he now wanted more money for the iPhone.
One of the men pulled a black handgun out of his pocket, police say, and demanded all of their money and cell phones. He also reached through an open car window and struck the victim in the head with the gun.
The suspects took the victim's money, her boyfriend's cellphone and left the area on foot.
No additional information was immediately available.
