ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A civilian review board could become a reality now that the St. Louis Police Department has shifted from state to local control.
The topic was discussed during a meeting of the transitional committee at police headquarters Wednesday. Citizens had the opportunity to address committee members - including Chief Sam Dotson, who serves as chairman.
Dotson said he would support civilian review.
"I want to make sure that the civilian review process holds them up to our policy standard and not to a public opinion standard," Dotson said.
Dotson added, however, that he would want the final discipline of officers to be left up to someone from inside the police department.
