ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A south city man convicted last month of first degree murder in the 2011 shooting death of St. Louis American newspaper manager Paul Reiter was sentenced to life in prison without parole Tuesday.
The sentence against Rico Paul, 21 was also found guilty by jurors of attempted burglary and armed criminal action.
Authorities say Reiter was shot to death in the yard of his Dutchtown neighborhood home after witnessing a burglary unfolding in a nearby residence.
Investigators say the victim was in the process of dialing 911 from his cell phone when Paul opened fire and shot Reiter before he could complete the call.
Paul was previously tried on the charges, with a jury unable to return a unanimous verdict, and a mistrial was declared in December 2012.
