Work continues on the new Mississippi River bridge
CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (AP) - A car reported stolen more than a decade ago has turned up - in the Mississippi River.
The Southeast Missourian reports that the 1997 Pontiac Firebird was reported stolen from a Sikeston, Mo., car lot in 2002. It was found Sunday in what's known as the Diversion Channel of the river in Cape Girardeau County.
Authorities say the river level is low enough that the car was found by someone walking along the bank. Cape Girardeau County Lt. David James says the thief probably took the car for a ride, then ditched it.
