ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - The Normandy School District says it is confident its doors will remain open through the school year and beyond. That comes as a response to news NewsChannel 5 first reported Tuesday night.
On Tuesday, the State Board of Education requested an additional $6.8 million in its upcoming budget to help Normandy pay for student transfers and finish the school year without going bankrupt.
Some education officials have estimated Normandy could be unable to pay its bills as early as February.
A Normandy spokesperson says the request for additional state funds was a surprise and should not be seen as a sign the district is in financial trouble.
State lawmakers will likely debate the extra funding in January.
