JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KSDK) - More than 370,000 Missourians are currently signed up to take part in an earthquake drill slated for 10:17 a.m. next Thursday.
The drill teaches the "Drop, Cover and Hold On" protective actions. Other states taking part in the drill include Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, Oklahoma and Tennessee.
During the 60-second drill, participants will practice:
-Dropping to the ground
-Taking cover by getting under a sturdy desk or table and
-Holding on until the shaking stops
Oct. 17 is the anniversary of the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake in California, which killed 62 people and damaged thousands of buildings.
