Logan, UT (Sports Network) - Preston Medlin scored 23 points to lead the Utah
State Aggies to a 73-61 triumph over the UC Davis Aggies in the opening round
of the World Vision Classic at Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Spencer Butterfield added 14 points and TeNale Roland chipped in 11 points off
the bench for Utah State (8-1) which has won seven straight.
Ryan Sypkens scored 12 points and Corey Hawkins added 11 points for UC Davis
(3-7) which had won back-to-back games entering play. Off the bench Ryan
Howley pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds and Clint Bozner tacked on 11
It was UC Davis that led 40-39 at halftime after connecting on 55.2 percent of
its shots from the field. Utah State remained close despite shooting 43.8
percent by hitting 8-of-16 shots from beyond the arc.
In the second half UC Davis cooled off to just 33.3 percent shooting . Utah
State managed to hit 40.7 percent of its field goal attempts while outscoring
UC Davis 8-4 from the free throw line to earn the win.
