New clubhouse for Mizzou golf teams at The Club at Old Hawthorne.
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KSDK) - A University of Missouri alumnus is giving back to the university and athletic programs that have meant so much to he and his family over the years.
Don and Audrey Walsworth of Marceline, Missouri are donating nearly $8.3 million to Mizzou's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics. That money will go toward funding a new clubhouse for the men's and women's golf teams at Old Hawthorne, as well as renovations to Memorial Stadium and other facility improvements and expansions.
The new golf clubhouse will house coaches' offices, team locker rooms, indoor-heated hitting bays and modern swing instruction technology.
Don Walsworth, CEO of Walsworth Publishing Company Inc., is a former chairman of the University of Missouri Board of Curators. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in education in 1957. Audrey Walsworth graduated from the Missouri School of Journalism.
Two of Don and Audrey Walsworth's children, Ed and Lynn, played on the Mizzou golf teams while attending the university. A third, Don Jr., played golf at Stanford University and won the Pac-10 championship his senior year.
With the inclusion of this latest gift, the Walsworth family has donated almost $14 million to the University of Missouri.
