Lawrenceville, NJ (Sports Network) - Anthony Myles produced 23 points to
propel the Rider Broncs over the Niagara Purple Eagles for a 72-69 decision in
a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference clash at the Alumni Gym.
Myles was 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-7 from 3-point range while also
pulling down seven rebounds for the Broncs (13-12, 8-5 MAAC), who have won two
in a row after a three game slump. Jonathan Thompson contributed 18 points and
Daniel Stewart managed a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds.
For Niagara (14-10, 10-3), Ameen Tanksley led all scorers with 29 points on
10-of-16 shooting from the field and also pulled down seven rebounds. Marvin
Jordan added 11 points as the Purple Eagles dropped their second in a row
after a seven-game win streak.
Niagara carried a 30-26 lead into the break after both teams shot well below
40.0 percent from the field and Rider went 1-of-12 from beyond the arc in the
opening 20 minutes.
In the second half, the Broncs were able to find the bottom of the net more
often and made good on 46.4 percent of their shots while the Purple Eagles
still struggled and made only 38.7 percent of their field goal tries. After
Rider took the lead with 16:49 to go, the Purple Eagles were never able to
regain it despite late-game attempts.
The closely contested matchup was reflected in the rebounding battle where
Rider held a narrow, 44-41, edge in boards.
