(KSDK Sports) - Is there a team in A-10 hotter than the Saint Louis Billikens? Nope. Tonight the red-hot Billikens are looking to knock off another nationally ranked team as they travel to Butler for a rematch with the Bulldogs.
Coach Jim Crews and his Billikens are riding a nine game winning streak and have taken over first place in the Atlantic 10 standings after defeating VCU earlier this week. The 76-62 win gave the Crews and company a 20 win season, a season that is being defined by defense.
Dominating is one word some analysts can be heard saying to describe the Billikens backcourt play. Saint Louis held VCU to just 62 total points, which is well under their normal offensive output. Saint Louis forced 10 turnovers on 6 steals and shot a whopping 55% from field goal range.
Mike McCall Jr. popped off for 15 points and went a perfect 8-8 from the charity stripe, while Dwayne Evans added 14 points and 8 rebounds for St. Louis.
The Billikens hold a conference leading 9-2 record in A-10 action, but remain just 0.5 up on Butler and VCU. Saint Louis is 4-2 on the road this season and has also gone 4-2 against the spread when playing away.
Butler took a tough loss a little over a week ago as they dropped a home loss to Charlotte 71-67 and lost hold of the 1st place spot in the Atlantic-10. The Bulldogs bounced back with back to back victories which came over the bottom feeders of the conference in Fordham and Duquesne.
Tonight's contest will be the rematch of the 75-58 Billikens trouncing of Butler at Chaifitz Arena earlier this month. That game was the first on the Bills current win streak.
