Los Angeles, CA (Sports Network) - Auburn quarterback Cam Newton reportedly
had three instances of academic cheating when he attended Florida.
FoxSports.com cited a source in reporting that Newton faced possible
expulsion. The report said Newton cheated in a class during his freshman year,
put his name on another student's paper, and also purchased a paper off the
Newton spent 2007 and '08 at Florida, then transferred to Blinn College before
facing a disciplinary committee, according to the report.
The report's allegations come less than a week after it was reported the NCAA
was investigating Auburn's recruitment of Newton from Blinn.
Newton has led the Tigers to a 10-0 record and a chance for a national title
-- Auburn is currently second in the BCS standings. The Heisman Trophy front-
runner has connected on 67.2 percent of his passes for 1,890 yards, with 19
touchdowns and five interceptions. He also leads the Southeastern Conference
in rushing (1,146 yards) while accounting for 15 scores on the ground.
