(The Cardinal Nation Show) -- At 9 a.m. sharp, Thursday morning, the St. Louis Cardinals launched their latest social media campaign, the "I Like Mike" campaign.
"The Hall of Fame in Cooperstown has something called the Ford C. Frick Award and it's for broadcasters," said Bill Dewitt III, Cards team president. "And there's a ballot with about 75 people on it. The Hall of Fame want fans to take all those names and condense them down to ten. So, there's three spots out of those ten that they give fans the opportunity to select. And we'd love Mike Shannon to be one of those, those spots."
The nominees will be announced in October with the award winner to be unveiled at baseball's winter meetings in September. You can vote at cardinals.com/likemike.
The idea to use social media for this campaign came after the immense success the club enjoyed with its Stan for Stan campaign in 2010.
Mike Shannon played for the Cardinals from 1962-1970 and has been a broadcaster since 1972. The Frick Award is given annually to a broadcaster for major contributions to the game. Previous recipients include Vin Scully, Jack Brickhouse, Ernie Harwell and former Cardinals broadcasters Harry Carry and Jack Buck.
