Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) - The Philadelphia Phillies placed second baseman Freddy Galvis on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back strain Thursday.

Galvis, who had appeared in all 58 games for Philadelphia this season in place of injured All-Star second baseman Chase Utley, suffered the injury on a swing in his fifth-inning at-bat during Wednesday's loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The 22-year-old rookie was hitting .226 with 15 doubles, three home runs, 24 RBI and 14 runs scored.

He joins a long list of Phillies currently on the DL, accompanying Utley, former MVP first baseman Ryan Howard, two-time Cy Young winner Roy Halladay, outfielder Laynce Nix and relief pitchers Jose Contreras, Michael Stutes, David Herndon and Justin De Fratus.

To replace Galvis on the roster, Philadelphia recalled infielder/outfielder Michael Martinez from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Martinez played in 88 games for the Phillies last season, batting .196 with three home runs, 24 runs batted in and 25 runs scored.
