ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny indicated that he has been fined by Major League Baseball for comments revolving around Yadier Molina's ejection and tirade Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium.
Among Matheny's postgame statements was that fill-in umpire Clint Fagan affected the game from the Cardinals' point of view: " "It's frustrating, because that changed the game for us. Now, I'm not saying that if he stays in the game, we win. But I'm saying that that wasn't necessary. That's all there was to it."
Molina was ejected by Fagan after slamming his helmet to the ground at the end of a play at first. Matheny came out to argue the ejection with Fagan and was immediately tossed. Molina was suspended for one game and fined for his histrionics for inadvertently coming in contact with an umpire. He is appealing the suspension.
