(KSDK Sports) -- Tonight on NewsChannel 5 at Six, Frank Cusumano is going to offer up a commentary regarding Adam Wainwright and the quality person he's become. This commentary stems from learning that Wainwright pushed hard the past week to get teammate Edward Mujica an invitation to the tomorrow's All-Star Game.
Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Major League Baseball confirmed shortly after All-Star pick Wainwright started Sunday's game against the Chicago Cubs that closer Mujica would replace his teammate on the National League's active roster.
Apparently, the league wanted to wait till after Wainwright officially appeared in Sunday's game in Chicago, which by Major League Baseball rules, allowed Wainwright to voluntarily give up his All-Star Game roster spot. Goold also reports that Giants manager Bruce Bochy, the NL's skipper, had a role in selecting Mujica for the open spot.
With Mujica in on the NL roster, six Cardinals are now representing the city in the mid-summer classic. The most in the National League. This is the second consecutive year the team has had six picks for the game.
