St. Louis (KSDK) - City leaders estimate the Rams' proposal for the Edward Jones dome renovation would cost more than $700 million. One of the big questions is who will foot that bill and whether it will be a good return on investment.
So we reached out to local sports economist Pat Riche today for answers.
He says the key will be to find out how much taxpayers will have to contribute. He says there would definitely be a big economic hit to the region if the Rams and the city can't come to an agreement. St. Louis would lose a lot by just not being as visible as a big city.
But he believes if taxpayers are on the hook for more than half of the cost, we probably won't see that return on investment for years and years and years to come.
The Rams and the city need to come to an agreement before June 1, or else the negotiations go into arbitration.
