The next stop for the Honey Badger will be the NFL.

The former LSU defensive back Tryann Mathieu announced his plans to enter next April's draft Thursday on Twitter.

I want to thank LSU and the fans for all that they have done for me but now it's time for me to move on to a next chapter and go to the NFL.

The decision ends his up-and-down career in Baton Rouge. Mathieu finished fifth in the Heisman Trophy last season as a sophomore as his play on defense and as a returner to help the Tigers reach the BCS title game.

LSU was voted No. 1 in the USA TODAY Sports preseason coaches' poll in August, but Mathieu was kicked off the team for violations of team rules before the season.

He considered transfer options at a lower-division school before enrolling in a drug rehabilitation center in Houston.

He eventually returned to classes at LSU this fall and was hopeful of return to the team next season. However, he was arrested last month for alleged possession of marijuana.
Now he'll be focused on getting ready for the NFL and try to repair some of the damage done by his off-field problems.
