(KSDK Sports) -- You never know till the ink is dry on the contract.
All indications pointed to the Rams and former Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Rob Ryan joining forces to continue the development of the Rams defense.
But just after 10 a.m. Tuesday morning the Rams sent out the following over twitter:
"After extensive conversations regarding defensive philosophy, the Rams and Rob Ryan agreed he was not the right fit for the DC position."
The team goes on to tweet that the search for a new defensive coordinator will continue.
Sports Director Rene Knott says a Rams spokesperson told him "it just came down that it wasn't a right fit." Knott also notes that the fact the Rams announced that a deal "did not" get done is telling because historically the Rams do not comment on transactions that did not occur.
"The Rob Ryan decision by Rams comes down to philosophies. He was lead candidate. He was in town over the weekend. But deal did not happen," said Knott.
