If lightning strikes a lake, ocean or any kind of water, how far will the electricity travel?

   If lightning strikes a lake, ocean or any kind of water, how far will the electricity travel?

   Water is a conductor of electricity so if lightning strikes, the current will spread out in all directions.  The farther the current travels, the weaker it gets.  But if lightning were to strike the ocean when you are in the water, it is not likely you would feel it since you are not part of the circuit.
